Introduction This guide is a general overview of the many aspects of running a successful medical practice. Whether you are a medical doctor, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, chiropractor, nurse midwife, naturopathic physician, physical therapist, or other provider you will find useful information to maximize profits and increase efficiency of your office. I will start off by briefly addressing the two major areas which will impact your practice the most, and will go into detail later. First, customer service, you are in a service industry and if your patients are not happy or satisfied they WILL not come back. I cannot stress enough how important it is to have a friendly and helpful staff. The second is the use of technology. It is imperative that you embrace computers and the software that is available. Not only will it save you time, but will increase your payments from insurance companies as well as decrease length of accounts receivable. Again, I will go into detail later. This book will cover several areas important to your practice, including how to set up a business and what type (i.e. S-corp, LLC, sole proprietor), advantages and disadvantages of each. I will give you marketing ideas and what has worked. Insurance contracts determine how much you will be paid I will teach you some negotiating tactics. In addition I will discuss how to collect that money from the carriers and patients and get you all that you are owed, and how to audit they money trail to ensure that there are not any “leaks”.
